Abstract
The Presidential Decree approves the National Strategy and Biodiversity Action Plan 2019-2025 aimed to ensure the conservation and sustainable use of Biodiversity components, taking into account the fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising from the use of biological resources as well as conservation actions, preservation, protection and restoration of Biodiversity in Angola. The Strategy's Vision is that by 2025, Angolan Biodiversity should be valued, converted, restored and wisely used, maintaining Ecosystem Services, maintaining a healthy and unpolluted environment, and sharing essential benefits for all people. Its General Objective is: Take effective measures to halt biodiversity loss to ensure that by 2025 ecosystems are resilient and continue to provide essential services, thereby contributing to the eradication of extreme poverty and the well-being of our population.
The Specific Strategic Goals (SG) for Action to achieve the General Objective until 2025 are: SG1: Reduce pressure on Biodiversity and promote its sustainable use; SG2: Strengthen the network of conservation areas including representations of the different Biomes and Ecosystems in Angola; SG3: Promote scientific research and the dissemination of information on Biodiversity; SG4: Reinforce education and awareness for sustainability; SG5: Reinforce the Implementation of International Biodiversity Agreements; SG6: Reinforce the role of local communities in the management of Biodiversity; SG7: Mobilize Funds for the conservation of Biodiversity; SG8: Restore Biodiversity in cities, towns, villages and neighborhoods in the country; SG9: Strengthen Institutions related to the Environment; SG10: To reinforce the elaboration of specific Legislation and its implementation in harmony with the International and SADC Region Agreements; SG11: Manage, coordinate and monitor Actions for the Conservation of Biodiversity (NBSAP); SG12: Restore degraded Forests and Ecosystem Services: The Strategic Goals lead to the setting of the National Biodiversity Goals that the Country should achieve by 2025, taking into account the international and regional synergies for reaching the Biodiversity Goals, Aíchi 2020 and the Millennium Sustainable Development Goals.
