Presidential Decree No. 81/22 approving the General Plan for the Development and Use of Water Resources in the Zambezi River Basin (PGDURHBH Zambezi).

This Presidential Decree approves the General Plan for the Development and Use of Water Resources in the Zambezi River Basin (PGDURHBH Zambezi). The PGDURHBH Zambezi's primary objective is to constitute a decisive instrument to ensure the rational use of national water resources, guaranteeing sustained socio-economic development and the preservation of the environment. In line with the objectives established in the Water Sector Development Programme (Resolution No. 10/04 of the Council of Ministers), with regard to the planning mechanisms for the use of water resources, the main strategic objective of the PGDURHBH Zambezi is to have an instrument that promotes the management of water resources, taking into account the deep relationship between the water resource, the land and other associated resources, as well as the need for coordination of sectoral interventions. In this context, the PGDURHBH Zambezi should make it possible to draw up guidelines for the participatory, sustainable and equitable management of the basin's water resources, promoting the fight against poverty and increasing the socio-economic benefits of the populations of the region and the country. The Plan's reference horizon is the year 2035, although short-term (2017) and medium-term (2025) intermediate timeframes are considered.
