Abstract
This Resolution ratifies the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Mozambique, the Republic of Zambia and the Republic of Zimbabwe for the establishment of the ZIMOZA Transfrontier Conservation Area, signed in Harare, Zimbabwe on 18 July 2024. This Agreement applies to the districts of Mhire, Muzarabani. Guruwe, Mount Darwin and part of Makonde (zones: 1, 2 and 11) in Zimbabwe, Zumbo, Mágoê and Cahora Bassa in Mozambique and Luangwa and Rufunsa in Zambia, as reflected in Annex I to this Agreement. Each Party has, in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations and the principles of international law, the sovereign right to exploit its environment and natural resources in accordance with its own environmental and natural resource management policies and legislation, and the responsibility to ensure that activities within its jurisdiction or control do not cause damage to the environment and natural resources of the other Party or areas beyond its national jurisdiction.
The main objectives of the TFCA are: a) promote the conservation of biodiversity and ensure the restoration of degraded ecosystems; b) ensure and guarantee the long-term sustainable management and use of the environment and natural resources and maintain the sustainability of the ecosystem in the TFCA; c) stimulate the full reaJon of the economic potential of the Area bringing economic benefits to the Parties and especially to the local communities of the Area; d) promote and ensure participatory management of the environment and natural resources in the TFCA; promote the conservation of cultural heritage and increase opportunities for sustainable development in the TFCA; e) develop strategies to prevent and, where possible, mitigate and manage conflicts. strengthen trust and security, etc.
