Abstract
Article 1 of the present Act contains the Animal Transportation Act laying down provisions on the transport of animals and related actions. The purpose of the present Act is the protection of animals in any mode of transportation as on road, by air or on water as well as minimum requirements to prevent the spreading of animal disease. The text consists of 25 articles divided into 5 Parts as follows: General provisions (1); Plans for monitoring and control of crisis (2); Authorization to use various means of transportation (3); Special provisions (4); Penal, final and transitional provisions (6). The Law contains 2 Annexes.
Furthermore, article II of the present Law introduces some amendments to the Animal Welfare Act (BGBl. I No. 118/2004). In particular, it amends article 11 dealing with protection of animals during transport; article 41 concerning the Animal Protection Ombudsman; and article 42 relating to the Animal Advisory Council.
