Austrian Climate and Energy Strategy Mission 2030.

The government of Austria is setting plans towards gradual decarbonization through enforcement of a proactive climate protection policy and an environmentally- and innovation-friendly mobility transition to reduce emissions. The Strategy provides guidelines for all key areas up to 2050 and for upcoming investments, especially between now and 2030. In the future, renewable energy and energy efficiency will be the benchmark for investments. This should turn Austria into a driving force for innovation in modern energy and environmental technologies on the global market. The planned measures need to be environmentally- and eco-friendly and put an end to soil-sealing and the impact on the man-made environment and natural habitats. The energy transition must be supported by both public and private investment.
Objectives for a climate-friendly economy can be reached through ecological sustainability, security of supply and competitiveness and affordability. That is the only way to achieve sustainable and affordable decarbonization that does not compromise growth and employment. In light of uncertain geopolitical developments, one major strategic move will be to reduce Europe’s and Austria’s dependency on certain major countries for imports and to diversify energy routes. One policy objective should be that all sections of the population can meet their basic energy and mobility requirements and the businesses will still be able to obtain energy services at economically affordable prices. The Strategy further provides for targeted adjustment of the funding and tax systems to achieve climate and energy target, education and awareness-raising for a sustainable future, development of infrastructure for sustainability, create a legal framework to protect a climate-friendly Austria. The main projects in light of the Strategy shall be efficient freight transport logistics, increase rail-bound public transport, e-mobility offensive, thermal building renovation and renewable heat, green finance and energy research development.
The Strategy lays down guidelines for climate and energy policy up to 2030. This integrated Climate and Energy Strategy is based, first, on the international and national framework and, second, on the will to proactively support the steps needed to transform society into a carbon-free society for the good of economy. At national level, these ideas will then be implemented in detailed strategies, laws, regulations and numerous other measures.
