Abstract
The objective of this Federal Act is to diminish the release of specific air pollutants into the atmosphere by instituting national commitments to reduce emissions, aiming for the enduring safeguarding of human health and the environment. By coordinating the implementation of suitable measures, the law seeks to safeguard against emissions of harmful air pollutants. In addition to protecting human health and the environment, the Act aims to achieve specific air quality objectives outlined in the Emission Protection Act-Air. While, it also aligns with the European Union's environmental goals, particularly those related to biodiversity conservation and ecosystem protection. Furthermore, the Act aims to enhance synergy between air quality objectives and climate and energy policies. It sets out national emission ceilings for various air pollutants, ensuring that emission levels do not exceed specified limits and empowers the Austrian government to collaborate with third countries and international organizations to enhance technical and scientific research and development efforts related to emissions reduction. It also includes provisions for penalties for violations, and administrative enforcement. The Act consists of 15 Articles and has one Appendix.
