Abstract
This Ordinance is established to regulate wastewater emissions from water treatment processes in Austria. Its primary focus is to ensure that wastewater discharged into flowing waters or public sewage systems meets specific emission limits, thereby safeguarding water quality for drinking, bathing, and other uses. The implementation plan outlined in the document mandates that existing wastewater discharges comply with the emission limits specified in Annex A within five years of the regulation's enactment. It emphasizes the need for regular monitoring and reporting of wastewater parameters, with provisions for both self monitoring and independent oversight. The text reflects on the promotion of environmentally friendly practices in water treatment, such as the use of biodegradable chemicals and the minimization of salt discharges through advanced membrane technologies. The regulation also encourages the adoption of best practices in wastewater management to enhance compliance and reduce environmental impacts. The text consists of 5 Articles and one Annex on emissions limits subject to Article 1.
