Abstract
The aim of the present Ordinance by the Federal Minister for Health and Consumer Protection is to ensure the quality standards of drinking water in Austria. In particular, it sets quality standards for surface water used in the preparation of potable water. Surface water is divided into 3 categories (A1-A2-A3) as laid down in Annex 2. It is illegal to use surface water not complying with the said standards. Moreover, various methods to assess the quality of surface water are prescribed. Articles 3 and 4 lay down the regulations for drinking water conditioning plants. This Ordinance does not apply to groundwater. The Ordinance consists of 10 articles and 4 Annexes.
