Styrian Plant Protection Act 2019 (StPSG 2019).

The Styrian Plant Protection Act 2019 (StPSG 2019) implements EU regulations on safeguarding plants against harmful organisms and on official controls. It applies to agriculture, horticulture, and adjacent areas, but excludes forestry and wildlife damage unless directly relevant to plant protection. The Act designates the provincial government as the competent authority, empowers it to delegate certain tasks to qualified public or private entities, and integrates these functions into Austria’s official plant protection service. It sets out monitoring obligations, reporting duties for landowners and businesses, and permits inspections, sampling, and enforcement actions to prevent and control plant pests.
The Act authorizes the government to impose protective measures, such as cultivation restrictions, crop rotation requirements, quarantines, or destruction of infested plants and materials. It also allows coordination with municipalities, which may support monitoring, public information, and enforcement. Those subject to obligations must cover the costs of official measures, and fees may be charged for inspections. Data processing and sharing of plant health information across authorities are regulated, with provisions to balance plant protection needs and data protection. The text consists of 14 Articles.
