Abstract
The ordinance makes a significant shift in Tyrol’s energy policy, effectively phasing out oil and gas heating in new buildings and major renovations, tightening emission standards, and promoting the use of renewable energy sources in heating and cooling systems. The regulation is part of Tyrol’s broader efforts to align with EU climate and energy directives and to modernize its building and energy infrastructure. From January 1, 2025, Tyrol bans the installation of oil and gas heating systems in all new buildings, and also prohibits oil and liquid gas heating in major renovations. The regulation restricts permitted fuels, prioritizing renewable energy sources over fossil fuels. Additionally, updated emission standards require heating systems to meet the latest technological benchmarks, explicitly mandating compliance with the EU’s regulations to ensure lower emissions.
