Abstract
This Notice has the purpose to adopt the new joint Australia and New Zealand Food Standards Code known as well as Volume 2. It also sets transitional standards for the time in which the Volume 2 comes into effect; until such time in Australia the food must comply either with Volume 1 (Food Standards Code which was published by the National Health and Medical Research Council in the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette, No. P 27, on 27 August 1987) or Volume 2. Volume 2 is organized in 3 Chapters. Chapter 1 concerns general food standards, concerns Labelling and other Information Requirements, Substances Added to Food, Contaminants and Residues, Foods Requiring Pre-Market Clearance and Microbiological and Processing Requirements. Chapter 2 regulates food products standards and provides a list of standard for several types of food (e.g. cereals, eggs, meat, dairy, oil and beverages) including as well special foods, such as infant formula and macronutrient modified foods. Chapter 3, applies just to Australia and regulates food safety requirements.
