Abstract
The main objective of the Act is to create a Corporation to assist Australian horticultural industries to achieve their full potential in overseas markets (sect. 7). The main functions of the Corporation are: (a) to encourage, assist, facilitate, promote and coordinate the export of Australian horticultural products; and (b) to improve: (i) the efficiency and competitiveness of Australian horticultural industries; (ii) the quality of Australian horticultural products; (iii) the producing of horticultural products (sect. 8). "Horticultural products" means: fruit, honey, vegetables, nuts, nursery products, cut flowers and foliage and products in a class of products prescribed for the purposes of this paragraph (sect. 3). The Act also provides for the establishment of the Australian Horticultural Corporation Selection Committee (sect. 76) and the establishment, by Regulation, of Product Boards in relation to a particular horticultural product (sect. 100).
