Abstract
The Environmental Protection (Extractive Activities) Amendment Regulation 2025 modifies the Environmental Protection Regulation 2019 to introduce a targeted exemption for regional local governments in Queensland. Under this amendment, these governments are no longer required to obtain an environmental authority for extractive and screening activities, provided the activities are conducted under the Forestry Act 1959 and in accordance with responsibilities under the Local Government Act 2009 or the Transport Infrastructure Act 1994. The amendment aims to reduce administrative burden and costs for regional councils enabling more efficient maintenance of community infrastructure such as roads.
