Abstract
This Act, consisting of 71 sections divided into ten Parts and completed by two Schedules, provides for the establishment of the Forest Products Commission and defines its composition, and functions and powers.
Functions of the Commission include: to advise the Minister on matters relating to the production and yield of forest products and on the commercial value and prices of forest products; to sell forest products by way of contract; to promote and encourage the development of the forest production requirements of the State; to acquire rights and powers, and accept obligations under Commission sharefarming agreements; to maintain plantations of forest products, plant nurseries for the production of forest products, or seed or propagation orchards of forest products; and to monitor the cost of production of forest products.
The Act provides for the preparation of strategic development plans and statements of corporate intent setting out the Commission’s medium to long term objectives and operational targets.
The Act further provides for: financial matters; timber sharefarming agreements in respect of any land with the owner of that land; contracts for the management, harvesting or sale of forest products; enforcement powers; etc.
