Abstract
This Strategy for the Greater Sydney area of the NSW government (the Department of Planning and Environment, Sydney Water and WaterNSW) focuses on reliable water supply for that area in the coming years taking into account climate change issues such as droughts (focus on delivery of drinking water, wastewater, recycled water and stormwater services in a way that is integrated with land use planning). The Strategy sets out objectives, (resilience) principles, priorities and action for water management in the Greater Sydney area. Priorities are: Understand how much water is needed and when; water systems are sustainable for the long term and resilient to extreme events; green and liveable cities; waterways and landscapes are healthy; Water management and services meet community needs. A core focus of the strategy is better integration of water planning with how we plan for development so that Greater Sydney’s waterways, natural environment and biodiversity are protected and our use of water supports recreation activities, cooling and greening initiatives, and urban places with high levels of amenity and liveability.
