Abstract
This is a 40-year plan to provide a sustainable and resilient water supply for the Lower Hunter area in New South Wales by improving resilience to drought and planning ahead to meet the needs of a growing community. It introduces a new approach to planning for drought and introduces measures to secure reliable water supply to meet the community’s needs. The Plan prioritises safe drinking water and recognises that the area's water system is underpinned by healthy ecosystems. The Plan's four priorities are: Safe drinking water; making the most of our existing water resources; improving resilience to shocks such as drought as well as remaining adaptive to future risks and opportunities; incorporate the values and participation of First Nations and Aboriginal people and protect and restore our environment and ecosystems. For each priority, specific measures are outlined.
