Abstract
This Act sets standards for meat production for human consumption and pet food, sets up the licensing procedure and inspection system for quality assurance programs, regulates the transport of meat, establishes the Victoria Meat Authority and regulates its activities and implements provision for the quality control of seafood.
The Act consists of 94 sections and is divided into the following Parts: Preliminary (1); Meat inspection (2); Quality assurance programs (3); Codes of practice (3A); Licensing (4); Duties concerning meat processing facilities (5); Meat transport vehicles (5A); Primesafe (6); Enforcement (7); Regulations (8); Amendments, repeals and transitional provisions (9).
The Act establishes the Primesafe Authority to control and keep under review the standards of meat, poultry meat and game produced for consumption or sale within the State, and of the construction and hygiene of meat processing facilities and meat trasnport vehicles; to licence meat processing facilities; to approve quality assurance programmes; etc.
