Abstract
National Food Plan - Our Food Future 2013 vision for Australia's food system is a sustainable, globally competitive, resilient food supply supporting access to nutritious and affordable food. To achieve this vision the Plan has set goals for the nation for 2025 divided into four main themes: 1) growing export; thriving industry, sustainable food and people.
Goals include: agriculture and food related export to be increased, adoption of innovative practices to produce food suitably increasing production and and improving environmental outcomes, budling capacity education initiatives, biosecurity systems, new agriculture technologies, build high level of food security to continue ensuring access to safe and nutritious food to those living in remote areas and struggling with disadvantages.
These policy principles will guide actions in implementing the National Food Plan. 1) Access to enough safe and nutritious food for all Australians — physical and financial access to safe and nutritious food for all. 2) Freedom to choose — Australians are free to make their own choices about food. 3) Sustainable production — Australia's natural resources will be managed sustainably to ensure continued food production and the wellbeing of future generations of Australians. 4) Vibrant industries — businesses that are responsive to change, open to global opportunities and provide rewarding jobs and careers; encourage innovation, adaptability and resilience in food industries. 5) Vibrant communities — continue to work in partnership with communities, state, territory and local governments. 6) Free and open markets. 7) Good global citizenship. 8) Evidence-based decisions. 9) Consultation and transparency. 10) Minimal and effective regulation—Regulations will aim to achieve the desired results with least possible regulatory burden.
