Abstract
The Act introduces provisions for the automatic approval of standard environmental applications, particularly those not related to mining leases, and establishes conditions under which deemed approvals apply if decisions are not made within prescribed timeframes. The Act authorises the use of electronic systems to automatically issue, amend, or renew environmental authorities and other regulatory instruments, subject to approval by the chief executive. It ensures that such systems operate in compliance with legislative requirements and retrospectively validates environmental authorities and regulation authorities issued through automated processes prior to the commencement of the amendments. Similarly it enables automatic handling of licences, permits, and authorities via approved electronic systems, with safeguards to maintain regulatory integrity.
