Abstract
As prescribed in section 6 of the principal Act, the Regulation identifies the following categories of non-indigenous animals: animals the entry and keeping of which are prohibited (1a and 1b); animals limited to restricted collections (2); animals permitted in other collections (3a and 3b); animals the entry and keeping of which are not restricted (4); animals that are already widespread pests (5). Said categorization mirrors the uniform categorization now used by the National Vertebrate Pests Committee. Schedule 1 contains a list of the species that fall within each category. Further provisions concern licences and permits (Part 6) and the establishment of standards for keeping animals (Part 7).
