Abstract
This plan describes how the NSW Government will implement the NSW Water Strategy from July 2022 to June 2024. There are more than 40 actions across 7 priority areas in the NSW Water Strategy focused on improving the security, reliability, quality and resilience of the state’s water resources. This implementation plan identifies what the government will do over the next 2 years under the 42 actions in the NSW Water Strategy and who the lead agencies and partners are that will work together to deliver the actions. Actions will be undertaken by a number of NSW Government agencies as well as State-Owned Corporations – WaterNSW, Sydney Water and Hunter Water – and independent authorities including the Natural Resources Access Regulator (NRAR) and the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA). Actions are grouped under the following priorities: Build community confidence and capacity through engagement, transparency and accountability; Recognise First Nations/Aboriginal People’s rights and values and increase access to and ownership of water for cultural and economic purposes; Improve river, floodplain and aquifer ecosystem health, and system connectivity; Increase resilience to changes in water availability (variability and climate change); Support economic growth and resilient industries within a capped system; Support resilient, prosperous and liveable cities and towns; Enable a future-focused, capable and innovative water sector.
