Abstract
This Act provides for the exploration and exploitation of petroleum resources in submerged lands of the Continental Shelf of Australia and of certain Territories of the Commonwealth and certain other submerged Land. The Act regulates mining for petroleum including exploration permits, retention leases, production licences, pipeline licences, fees and royalties and defines requirements for environmental protection and pollution control in mining and transport operations. For the purposes of this Act, there is established in respect of the adjacent area in respect of each State a Joint Authority consisting of the Commonwealth Minister and the State Minister. The National Offshore Petroleum Safety Authority Board is established by under section 150 XL.
