Abstract
The main objects of this Act are: (a) to give effect to certain obligations of the Commonwealth under Regional Forest Agreements; (b) to give effect to certain aspects of the Forest and Wood Products Action Agenda and the National Forest Policy Statement; (c) to provide for the existence of the Forest and Wood Products Council. "Regional Forest Agreement " (RFA) is defined in section 2 as an agreement between the Commonwealth and States regarding forest management and conservation issued specified in the definition. Part 3 of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 and provisions of other Acts specified in section 6 do not apply to an RFA forestry operation that is undertaken in accordance with an RFA. Other provisions of this Act concern termination of an RFA or compensation of breach by the Commonwealth, information and tabling of RFA's. The Minister of the Commonwealth shall ensure that a Forest and Wood Products Council exists at all times. The Council shall be a forum by which the Minister and stakeholders in the forest and wood products industry may consult, exchange advice and otherwise cooperate regarding RFA's.
