Abstract
The Territory Parks and Wildlife Conservation By-laws 1984 cover various aspects of park and wildlife management. They start with preliminary matters, including the official name, definitions, and scope of the by-laws. Access to parks and reserves is regulated, specifying opening hours, entry rules, and the requirement for a parks pass in certain areas. Swimming is prohibited in specific zones, and there are detailed regulations for camping, vehicle use, and applicable fees. The By-laws also control activities within the parks, such as rules for fires, waste disposal, commercial activities, public events, and prohibitions on weapons and explosives. Wildlife protection is emphasized, along with regulations on disturbing natural features and fishing. Public behavior is also addressed to ensure a respectful environment. For vehicles, vessels, and aircraft, the By-laws include driving and parking rules, speed limits, and regulations for waterborne vessels and aircraft operations. Conservation officers have the authority to give directions that must be obeyed. Impounding of vehicles is covered, detailing the establishment of a vehicle pound, procedures for impounding, and the auction of impounded items. Miscellaneous matters include compliance with directions, removal and seizure of animals, and permit requirements.
