Abstract
Regulations to implement provisions of the Torres Strait Fisheries Act. The Regulations make provision for fishing licences, the reporting of data on fishing, payment of licence and other fees, marking of vessels, the requirement to comply with Marine Navigation Orders, identity cards, publication of log-books, the powers of the Minister, detention of suspected illegal foreign and offences in relation with log-books. Regulation 4A, added by the last amendment of 1999, introduces a term of 5 year for (a) each licence granted under subsection 19 (1) of the Act; and (b) each licence for an Australian boat, granted under subsection 19 (2) of the Act. The Licensing authority shall be the Minister or the Protected Zone Joint Authority (defined in the Act).
The text consists of 14 regulations and 3 Schedules: Fees (1); Short methods of reference to certain areas of Australian jurisdiction (2); Requirements relating to letters and figures of distinguishing numbers displayed on boats (3).
Entry into force notes
These Regulations enter into force on 15 February 1985.
