Abstract
This Act provides for general function and powers of the Minister including: the conservation, protection, assessment and management of water resources; planning the use of water resources; the promotion of the efficient use of water resources; and the development of plans on flood management.
The Act provides for the establishment of the Water Resources Ministerial Body to provide a body corporate through which the Minister can perform any of the minister’s functions under this Act. The Act also establishes the Water Resources Council and defines its composition.
The Act further provides for: powers of the Minister to make by-laws and regulations; financial provisions; agreements relating to works and water services; access to land and information for rating purposes; restrictions on the entry onto land by or on behalf of the Minister; acquisition of land or interest in land; works carried out for the conservation, protection and management of water resources; infringement notices; administrative measures; etc.
