Abstract
Wildlife Trade Management Plan – Queensland Crocodile Farming and Crocodile Egg Harvesting (2023-2028) establishes a regulatory framework under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (Cth) for the sustainable use of estuarine and freshwater crocodiles in Queensland. It authorises specific activities including captive breeding, limited wild egg harvesting, and the removal of problem crocodiles, subject to strict licensing and compliance conditions. The Plan ensures that all authorised activities are ecologically sustainable, do not adversely affect wild populations, and are conducted in accordance with the Code of Practice on the Humane Treatment of Wild and Farmed Australian Crocodiles. It aligns with obligations under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) and relevant state legislation. Harvesting of wild eggs is permitted only in designated areas with adequate monitoring and ecological oversight. All participants must hold appropriate wildlife authorities, and compliance is enforced through audits, inspections, and population monitoring. Annual reporting to the Commonwealth includes data on removals, harvests, compliance actions, and population trends.
