Abstract
This Joint Plan of actions for the Sava river basin has the objective to define and implement a set of actions and aims regarding the sustainable development of the region through transboundary water cooperation, with particular objectives in establishment of international regime of navigation, sustainable water management and sustainable management of hazards. The Framework Agreement on the Sava River Basin (or FASRB) is a unique international agreement, which integrates many aspects of water resources management. Responsibility of implementation of the agreement and achievement of the goals lies with the International Sava River Basin Commission (ISRBC). The executive body of the ISRBC is the permanent ISRBC Secretariat. This text includes issues regarding different sectors and activities such as: navigation, flood protection, agriculture, hydropower, sustainable river tourism and nature protection and ecosystem restoration. Priority areas of cooperation and related actions are as follows: Strengthening the Sava river basin planning to accelerate economic integration and investments; Improving the navigability of the Sava water way; Improving flood management and monitoring; Developing sustainable river tourism; Protecting environment and adapting to climate change.
