Abstract
This Regulation prescribes the method and procedure for managing titanium dioxide waste, as well as environmental monitoring measures that shall be adopted at the location. Titanium dioxide waste includes all types of waste generated during the titanium dioxide production process, and this means: 1) solid waste, 2) mother liquor resulting from filtration after hydrolysis of titanium oxysulfate from plants using the sulfate process, including mixtures of mother liquor and weakly acidic waste containing a total of more than 0.5% free sulfuric acid and various heavy metals, as well as mother liquor diluted to contain 0.5% or less free sulfuric acid, 3) waste from plants using the chloride production process containing more than 0.5% free hydrochloric acid and various heavy metals, including such waste diluted to contain 0.5% or less free hydrochloric acid, 4) filtration salts, sludges and liquid waste which is generated by processing operations (concentration or neutralization) of waste from items 2) and 3), as well as waste containing various heavy metals, but does not include neutralized, filtered or leached waste containing only traces of heavy metals.
