Republic waste management plan in Republika Srpska for the period 2019–2029.

This Waste management plan in the Republic of Srpska for the period from the year 2019 until the year 2029 defines main strategic objectives and goals in terms of sustainable, controlled and environmentally safe waste collection, separation, processing and management on general, based on the analysis of the existing situation and already identified waste management goals.
General goal: As a prerequisite for the successful implementation of waste management based on waste management principles, it is necessary to establish an information system for registering data on waste management and develop a sustainable waste management system based on advanced principles of waste management with the implementation of constant education on all levels of society and economy. A prerequisite for sustainable waste management is the establishment of short-term and long-term goals. With regard to the analysis of the realization of goals prescribed by this Strategy, specific goals are given in the context of regional approach and are aimed at construction of regional centers for waste management. Short-term goals (2019–2024): I. Harmonization of the legal framework of Republika Srpska with EU regulations; II. Strengthening the institutional framework of waste management; III. Prevention of waste generation; IV. Improving the municipal waste collection system (increasing coverage of the population by organized collection service and waste disposal on an annual basis-the goal is 85%; establishing a system of separate collection of communal components of waste-the goal is 10% of the total amount of collected municipal waste, ie 25% of the total amount of packaging waste; increasing the quantity of treated municipal waste-the goal is 2% of treated municipal waste); V. Establishment of a system for separate collection and treatment of special types of waste; VI. Establishing a system for separate collection and treatment of hazardous waste (encourage separate collection and preparation for processing and disposal of hazardous waste); VII. Establishment of industrial waste management system; VIII. Remediation and closure of unorganized and wild landfills; IX. Establishment of regional centers for waste management. Long-term goals (2025–2029) are listed as follows: I. Harmonization of the legal framework of Republika Srpska with EU regulations; II. Strengthening the institutional framework of waste management; III. Prevention of waste generation; IV. Improving the municipal waste collection system; V. Establishment of a system for separate collection and treatment of special types of waste; VI. Establishing a system for separate collection and treatment of hazardous waste; VII.
