Abstract
This Water management Strategy of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina for the period 2010-2022 sets issues regarding designated plans and actions aimed at setting a water management basis in terms of planned objectives (also in accordance with the federal Water Law). Water management strategy is recognized as basic planning document for the development of water management, with one of the components: goals and directions of water protection, protection against harmful effects of water and sustainable water use. The strategy is aimed to determine the water management policy of the Federation of BiH, that is, to determine the directions of action on the issues of water protection, protection against harmful effects of water and sustainable water use. Basic goal of water management is to ensure necessary quantities of water of appropriate quality for various purposes, which is also a public and social interest (preserving and improving the good general health of the population).

General goals of water management can also be called a vision of development, which is a set of goals as follows: achieving good condition, i.e. good ecological potential of surface and groundwater, that is, aquatic and water-related ecosystems; reduction of damages caused by various harmful effects of water; providing the necessary quantities of water of appropriate quality for various purposes and incentives for sustainable use of water, taking into account the long-term protection of available sources and their necessary quality.
