Abstract
By virtue of this Act Barbados becomes a republic with a President as Head of State. Therefore all rights, liabilities and obligations of Her Majesty shall be rights, liabilities and obligations of the State.The Independence Order is revoked, but the revocation of that Order does not affect the validity of the Constitution set out in the Schedule to that Order. In addition, the Constitution becomes the supreme law of Barbados.
Chapter IV of the Constitution is replaced by new Chapter IV concerning the Office of President and Head of State.
