Abstract
The National Organic Agriculture Policy provides for strategies relating to organic farming in Bangladesh. The objectives include identifying regions and crops suitable for organic farming, expansion of agronomic production systems, promoting organic seeds and indigenous knowledge, facilitating production of bio-materials, assisting in certification process, and creating market for organic products. The Policy contains 13 strategies pertaining to organic farming: 1. Conservation of soil fertility; 2. Eco-friendly methods for disease and pest management; 3. Weed control by biological and mechanical methods; 4. Environment friendly and pollution free irrigation management; 5. Selection of suitable regions and places; 6. Crop selection; 7. Education, research, extension; 8. Integration of traditional and indigenous knowledge; 9. Employment; 10. Cooperative societies; 11. Benefits and support; 12. Internal market development; and 13. Export market. The institutional mechanism for the implementation of the Policy is laid down.
