Abstract
This Policy provides for strategies for development and expansion of the salt industry in Bangladesh. The objectives of the Policy are laid down along with the classification of various types of salt such as edible salt, salt used in fish processing and the livestock sector. The strategies for development of salt industry include application of polythene method of salt production, prohibition of black salt production, initiatives to increase production and protection of salt pans from hazards, information collection, ensuring fair price of salt, keeping buffer stock for emergencies, credit access for salt farmers, and production of iodised salt. The strategies for implementation of the Policy are laid down. The governance mechanism provides for the formation of Salt Policy Implementation and Monitoring Committee and Salt Advisory Board, and the responsibilities to be fulfilled by various stakeholders.
