The Poisons Act, 1919 (Act No. XII of 1919).

This Act provides that the government may frame rules to regulate the sale and possession for sale of any specified poison. Such rules may contain provisions relating to grant of licenses, fees for such licenses, restriction on persons to whom license may be granted or poison may be sold, quantity of poison that may be sold, inspection of vendors, labelling and packaging of such poison. The government may also prohibit import of any poison and make rules for grant of license for such imports. The Act provides that the government may make rules to regulate possession of any specified poison in any local area in which poisoning of cattle is a frequent occurrence. The rules may make such actions punishable and allow confiscation of the poison. The Act provides for issuing of search warrants in cases where it is suspected that poison is possessed or sold in contravention of this Act of rules made thereunder.
