Abstract
This Ordinance provides norms for processing products to be consumed as food in order to avoid any adulteration that could harm consumers.
The Ordinance will appoint Public Analysts of Food to carry out the purposes of this text. It will constitute a National Food Safety Advisory Council, which shall advise the Governemnt on: matters related to food safety; standards and quality control for food; policies and strategies related to food safety and quality control; etc.
The Ordinance further provides for: prohibition of manufacture or sale of food which does not meet qualtiy standards; prohibition of sale or use of poisonous or dangerous chemicals and intoxicated food colour; standards of purity of milk, butter, ghee, wheat flour, mustard or any other rape seed oil and of any article of food; prohibition of sale of diseased animals and unwholesome food intended for human consumption; use of false labels; analysis of food and certificates of analysis; inspection and seizure of food; offences and penalties; etc.
