Memorandum of understanding between the Government of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan on cooperation in the field of environmental protection.

This Memorandum of understanding, with a view to improving mutual efforts and developing cooperation in the field of the prevention of environmental pollution and protection of the environment, recognizing the importance of deepening bilateral cooperation in the field of environmental protection in order to achieve the commitments arising from international agreements to which both countries are parties, pursuant to the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development and other essential treaties and declarations, here ratifies the bilateral agreement of cooperation in the field of environmental protection between the Government of the Republic of Bulgaria and Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The Parties will develop and enhance mutual cooperation in the field of environmental protection and the prevention of environmental pollution in the interests of both countries and will encourage the further development of economic, scientific and technical links in order to find solutions to global and regional problems through joint efforts (article 2, general tasks).
Essential tasks and commitments of this Memorandum are the: conservation of biodiversity; exchange of experience and good practices for developing strategic plans for biodiversity conservation; management of protected areas, their sustainable use and activities within them; environmental impact assessment; global climate change and hydrometeorology; protection of the ozone layer; preservation of the environmental status of soils and applying experience in organic farming; control of transboundary pollution of water and air; waste management efforts; protection of waters against pollution and management of water resources. The Parties may also agree on other areas of cooperation (article 3).
