Abstract
This National strategy for the development of viticulture and winemaking in the Republic of Bulgaria for the planned period from the year 2005 until the year 2025 aims to outline the framework for the development of the sector and the expansion of the Bulgarian wine market in the country and abroad. Another important goal of the document is to help Bulgaria achieve strong positions in market niches for quality wines in markets with prominent gastronomic habits and lifestyle. The restructuring of the wine sector is a key element in achieving the vision and deriving sectoral strategic goals. Only by building a modern structure of the sector can the influence on the market be increased and efficient use of resources ensured. Major issues addressed in this strategy are natural prerequisites for growing wine grapes; land ownership; organization of viticulture-monitoring and control of the viticultural potential; encouraging the association between viticulturists and winemakers; supporting the associations for the purchase of equipment, fertilizers and preparations.
