Abstract
This Ordinance, based on the provisions of the national Law on food, determines the conditions and the order for processing foods with ionizing radiation and sets related requirements for such foods. Processing of foods with ionizing radiation is permissible only if they are in a suitable-healthy condition. The treatment of foods with ionizing radiation must not be used as a substitute for good production, hygiene and agricultural practice or to mask poor food quality. This text further introduces the requirements of Directive 1999/2/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on the approximation of the laws of the Member States concerning foods and food ingredients treated with ionizing radiation and of Directive 1999/3/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on the establishment of a Community list of foods and food ingredients treated with ionizing radiation.
