Abstract
This Regulation determines the conditions, procedure and manner for organizing and conducting the protection of forest areas and forest territories from diseases, pests and other possible damages.
Main tasks for the protection of forest areas are: identification of the occurrence and spread of pests, diseases and other potentially harmful issues and assessment and monitoring of their impact on the health status of the tree and forest vegetation; development of forecasts on the occurrence and development of insects and other pests, diseases and deriving damage; defining methods and means of forest protection and establishing an organization for the systematic control of pests, diseases and other occurred damage; development of environmental and forest protection issues related to the protection of forest areas of the Republic of Bulgaria.
Monitoring practices, signaling and lesopathological inspections are defined in Chapter Two, Section I; in Section II monitoring of forest ecosystems is regulated, for which the following information shall be collected in each test area: physico-geographical and dendrological characteristics; climatic characteristics and dynamics of the main climatic parameters; morphological and analytical data on the soil and the soil cover (acidity, content of nutrients and heavy metals), condition of lysimetric waters; accumulation and dynamics of inorganic elements and heavy metals in the leaves of tree species; characteristic and condition of the grass cover under the cover of the plantations and accumulation of heavy metals; health, biotic and abiotic lesions and their impact on tree vegetation; and list of already performed past measurements. Section IV of the same Chapter sets out the detailed lesopathological examination of major insects and other pests and diseases that can be found in forest areas.
