Abstract
This Decree Law is composed of 16 articles. Article 1 gives terms and definitions. Articles 2 and 3 deal with the governing of the control on the use, marketing and promotion of infantile food including milk, food and beverages used as alternatives or integrators for mother milk which should be in conformity and in accordance with the International Codex Alimentarius. Article 4 deals with requirements and conditions for the importation of infantile food and the information included in food labels in particular: to be written clearly and evident in Arabic; name and address of producers; notice indicating the use of breast milk substitutes only if necessary and underlining the importance of the natural breast-feeding; requirements for the conservation; production and expiry date; and, ingredients. Articles 5 to 8 define requirements and conditions for promotion and advertising of the aforementioned food. Articles 9 to 14 contain general provisions such as: incentives; control and inspection; and, offences and penalties. Article 15 entrusts the Minister of Public Health to issue necessary regulations and resolutions for the implementation of this Decree Law.
