Abstract
This Health Improvement Strategy follows the Kingdom of Bahrain’s Health Agenda 2011 -2014 in addressing the public health issue. It is a nationwide sectoral document, in line with international standards, aiming at (i) preparing and tackling the major challenges faced by the health sector; (ii) focusing on preventive services and health promotion programs; (iii) encouraging community partnership and self-care principles; (iv) seeking to provide high-quality healthcare. The Strategy sets out the following 6 main strategic objectives (1) sustaining the population’s health through health promotion and prevention; (2) integrating services in the health system throughout the Ministry of Health and with other governmental and private institutes; (3) putting quality first; (4) access for all to healthcare services; (5) enhancing Ministry of Health's role in policy making and governance; and (6) health service sustainability. Among the actions to be undertaken to achieve the goals there are (i) promotion of healthy lifestyles to maintain health and reduce the incidence of Non-Communicable Diseases NCDs; (ii) enhance integration in the Emergency and Disaster Management System in the Ministry of Health; (iii) support a Health Information Technology Systems; (iv) enhance partnership with the private health sector; (v) improve access to primary and secondary health care.
