Law No.9 of 2016 with respect to Standards and Metrology.

This Law consisting of 22 articles aims at ensuring the health and safety of the consumers and protection of the environment by making sure that goods, products and services comply with technical regulations. It establishes that the competent authority is the only authorized reference for standardization and quality control of production, the development of national standards, and the issuance of national technical regulations, through the following main tasks (i) adopt a national system of standards and specifications in accordance with international practices; (ii) ensure the quality of goods in accordance with the standard specifications; and (iii) raise the production efficiency, improve the quality of national products, and identify standard means of work and production to achieve economic growth.
At art.4 the Law establishes a committee called the National Committee for Standards and Metrology under the chairmanship of the Minister for Trade Affairs with the main task of setting the general policy for specifications and standards. No trademark, shape or symbol may be used without written authorization from the competent department (art.7). The local manufacturer and trader are responsible for the safety of their products in the local markets (art.12). The Ministry has the right to prohibit the circulation or sale of any product until it complies with the national technical regulations (art.13). The manufacture, import or circulation of the following products is prohibited (i) products that do not comply with approved technical regulations, (ii) products harmful to health, safety and the environment; (iii) products inappropriate for the purpose for which they were made; and (iv) products in which the country of origin is not clearly indicated (art.14).
