Abstract
This National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women is a nationwide multi-sectoral document developed by the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), established in 2001, aiming at contributing to mainstreaming women’s needs in development programs so to achive the Vision of an equal partnership towards building a sustainable competitive society. The main objectives of the document are (i) empowerment of Bahraini women and integration of their needs in development programs to ensure family stability and maintain family bonds; (ii) enhancing the principle of equal opportunities to ensure the competitiveness of Bahraini women and the continuity of lifelong learning; (iii) ensuring the diversity of alternatives available to Bahraini women to enhance their quality of life through a framework of legislations and policies; (iv) collaboration with allies and partners in institutional work to enhance the status of women; (v) establishment of a house of experts specialized in women-related issues based on international standards and national expertise. The Plan is launched within a framework of values that encompasses high values of justice and women empowerment from which there are secondary values that include equal opportunities, ensuring women's rights, partnerships, and alliances as well as adopting entrepreneurship and innovation as a set of principles and concepts used as a base to achieve the objectives of the national path through integration and interdependence.
