Abstract
This Regulation, consisting of 10 articles, provides for the rules to be met to import aquatic plants (which includes algae such as seaweed, spirulina and chlorella), in particular, it establishes that (i) importers must be registered with the Fisheries Department of the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism; (ii) they must have a valid aquatic plants import license; (iii) imported aquatic plants must be included in the ones listed in the approved import license application; (iv) the importation of aquatic plants listed as protected species under the Convention of International Trade of Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) must have a CITES export permit; (v) the consignments have to met the handling and packaging conditions and have a Health Certificate issued by the Competent Authority of the exporting country stating that the consignment is safe for human food; (vi) the aquatic plant source has to be obtained from an approved aquatic plant farm; (vii) the importers must allow the Department of Fisheries to obtain samples of the imported aquatic plants, inform the Fisheries Department of the date and time of the importation for inspection and sampling purposes, and provide information on each importation for record keeping.
