Abstract
This Act specifies the requirements to peform "hazardous waste" disposal. In particular, it defines: waste where the waste has any of the characteristics mentioned in Annex III to the Basel Convention; or waste that belongs to any category contained in Annex I to the Basel Convention, unless it does not possess any of the characteristics contained in Annex III to that Convention; but hazardous and other wastes do not include wastes which derive from the normal operations of a ship and radioactive wastes. It provides for the following related matters: requirements for exports and transits to foreign countries, environmentally sound management of hazardous or other waste, substances not classified as hazardous or other waste, time limit for compliance with permit condition, etc. The competent authority to issue environmental licensing is the Director of Environment, Parks and Recreation
