Abstract
This Ministry of Health's Strategic Plan for 2019-2023 serves as a nationwide roadmap towards achieving excellence in healthcare services and transparent, proactive governance in Brunei Darussalam. Aligned with the Ministry's vision, "Together Towards A Healthy Nation," the plan focuses on strengthening the health system by enhancing service delivery, provision of medicines, medical technology, infrastructure, healthcare financing, human resources, governance, information technology, and research. It outlines five strategic goals: (1) Excellence in Health Care Service; (2) Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases; (3) Protection of Public Health through Effective Policies and Regulations; (4) Sustainability through Resource Optimization and Innovation; and (5) Transparent and Proactive Governance.
The Plan also emphasizes the importance of nutrition in childhood, featuring programs like "Giving Every Child the Best Start in Life," which includes developing a Code on Responsible Advertisement of Foods and Beverages to Children. Improving Brunei’s food environment involves enhancing the effectiveness of existing Healthier Choice Initiatives through partnerships with relevant stakeholders, conducting mass media campaigns on healthy eating based on revised National Dietary Guidelines, developing a National Salt Reduction Strategy to promote products with lower sodium content, and monitoring the impact of fiscal policies on unhealthy foods and beverages.
