Abstract
This Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) is a nationwide multisectoral document, in line with decision 1/CP.21, aiming at setting a new ambition level which includes an economy-wide 2030 NDC target based on clear climate mitigation, resilience and adaptation policies. The main target is the reduction in GHG emissions by 20% relative to Business-As-Usual levels. The key sectors covered by the document are (i) Energy; (ii) Industrial Processes and Product Use; (iii) Agriculture; (iv) Forestry and Other Land Use; (v) Waste. As a developing country, Brunei Darussalam will endeavourto limit the increase in GHG emissions in accordance to its national capacity and circumstances with so as to achieve a balance between anthropogenic emissions by sources and removal by sinks of GHG reflecting national circumstances. The climate mitigation strategy aims to (i) intervene in the on industrial emissions by a substantial reduction; (ii) increase carbon sink through afforestation and reforestation; (iii) increase total share of electric vehicles (EV) to 60% of the total annual vehicle sales by 2035; (iv) increase total share of renewable energy to at least 30% of total capacity in the power generation mix; (v) reduce GHG emissions by at least 10% through better supply and demand management of electricity consumption; (vi) impose price on carbon emissions for industrial sector; (vii) improve the waste managment, by reducing municipal waste to landfills to 1kg/person/day; (viii) mandatory monthly and annual reporting of carbon inventory. The interventions are in line with the Brunei Darussalam National Climate Change Policy (BNCCP).
