Complementary Law No. 6.462 establishing the State Policy on Forests and other Forms of Vegetation.

This Law, consisting of 39 articles divided into two Chapters, establishes the State Policy on Forests and other Forms of Vegetation. The Policy is a set of principles, objectives and instruments of action for the purpose of preserving, conserving and recovering the natural flora heritage and contributing to the socio-economic development of the State of Pará, in accordance with the State Environmental Policy and the Federal Legislation. The forests and other forms of vegetation make up the heritage of natural flora of the State, recognizing its ecological, cultural and economic value. The objectives of the State Policy aim to perform the following activities: ensure the availability of the natural resources of the flora to the present and future generations, in accordance with their needs and the adequate quality standards to their respective uses; identify, create, deploy and manage conservation units to protect representative samples of plant ecosystems; promote and support the development of research and dissemination of technologies aimed at the utilization of products of the natural flora and for the valorization of new forest species; measure the ecological, economic and social value of the natural flora of the State; carry out monitoring of the natural flora of the State; contribute to the implementation of ecological-economic zoning; create means and instruments to supply the demand for bioenergy, wood and non-wood products; institute programmes for the recovery of degraded areas; institute and disseminate programmes for environmental education and eco-tourism; promote the conservation and preservation of natural flora resources and its genetic heritage; guide, prevent and control pests, diseases and forest fires; identify and monitor plant associations, endangered and endemic species; etc.
