Abstract
This Decree creates the National Plastic-Free Ocean Strategy (ENOP) for the period 2025 to 2030, with the aim of guiding and coordinating public policies for the prevention, reduction, and elimination of plastic pollution in the ocean through strategic and synergistic actions. The objectives of ENOP are: tackle plastic pollution in the ocean, considering the life cycle and consumption patterns, in order to protect natural resources and marine food chains, ensure food security and encourage the adoption of practices that have less impact on the environment and human health; promote coordination between public policies aimed at preventing, reducing and eliminating plastic pollution in the ocean; encourage the development and implementation of action plans at federal, state, district, municipal, local and sectoral levels to tackle plastic pollution in the ocean; stimulate research, development, and technological innovation to promote a clean, healthy, resilient, and productive ocean, with a focus on the production, commercialisation, recycling, and environmentally sound disposal of plastic; generate sustainable, regenerative, and circular solutions based on stimulating critical and innovative thinking through the promotion of science, culture, and environmental education; expand access to sources of financing for the implementation of policies for the environmental adaptation of production, reduction, use, reuse, and recycling.
